Greenwood, David The Pairs Game 5.00 VG

Hawthorn, Amanda Improve Your Bridge 3.50 VG
Revised edition, published in 1993. Five pages are creased, otherwise the book is in new and unread condition.

This is an ACOL based book targeted at people playing bridge socially or at a local level. The focus is on natural bidding; conventions such as transfer bids and two-suited overcalled are mentioned but not discussed. Despite the absence of conventions -- or perhaps because of it! -- this book provides valuable information about important areas of natural bidding such as preemptive opening bids and responses, when and how to look for slams, and bids to help your side find the right suit/notrump contract to play in. Some highlights from the contents (not an all-inclusive list):

Part I: Bidding. 1NT opening bids - weak or strong? * Opener's rebids * Responder's bids and rebids * Preemptive bidding * Fourth suit forcing * Directional asking bids * Trial bidding * When to look for a slam * Slam bidding conventions * Quantitative bidding * Takeout doubles * Doubling for penalties
Part II: Declarer play. Playing in trump contracts * Playing in notrump * Safety plays
Part III: Defence. Opening leads * Signaling * Defence

Light creasing to front cover. Interior clean and unmarked. Unabridged republication of the first (1960) edition, first published under the title "Master Play: the expert game".

From the cover: Beginning with some basic rules that will help any player clarify his bridge reasoning, Reese goes on to discuss and analye 130 deals, many of them from championship play. He points out the correct play in such situations as finesses, loser-on-loser variaitons, holds, eliminations, deceptions... a special section is devoted to playing trump suits. Every deal is indexed according to play type, so that this book can be used as a dictionary as play.

Roth, Danny Challenge Your Declarer Play 3.50 VG
In this quiz book, the well-known author, Danny Roth, has compiled a set of challenges that will test readers' ability as a declarer, and at the same time, introduce some stratagems that may be unfamiliar. The hands are tougher than those in Focus on Declarer Play, and they are not presented in the same teaching mode, rather, they are in a random order as one might encounter them at the bridge table.
